Investigations into the brutal murder of Pamela Tumwebaze, a senior official at Uganda Christian University (UCU), have taken a dramatic turn following the arrest of her husband, identified as Alex, and a boda boda rider known as Adam, who police suspect may have played a pivotal role in the crime.
The killing of Tumwebaze, who served as a dean at the Mukono-based institution, has sent shockwaves through the academic community and beyond. Her body was discovered earlier this week under what authorities have described as violent and premeditated circumstances. Since then, a multi-agency team of investigators has been working around the clock to reconstruct the events leading to her death.
Husband Arrested as Investigations Intensify
On Thursday, joint security operatives arrested Tumwebaze’s husband at their residence in Mukono District. Although police have not publicly disclosed the specific charges he may face, officials confirmed he is being detained to assist with ongoing investigations.
Sources close to the investigation say detectives began scrutinizing the husband’s movements and communications shortly after inconsistencies reportedly emerged in his initial statements. While authorities have stopped short of alleging direct involvement, insiders indicate that forensic analysis and digital evidence may have prompted the decision to place him under arrest.
Police spokesperson Kituma Rusoke, speaking during a midweek media briefing, urged the public to remain calm as inquiries continue.

“The arrests made so far represent significant progress in our investigations,” Rusoke said. “However, this remains an active case, and we ask members of the public to allow detectives the time and space needed to conclude their work.”
Boda Boda Rider’s Alleged Role
Also in custody is Adam, a boda boda rider whose alleged actions before and after the murder have drawn intense scrutiny from investigators.
According to police sources, Adam is suspected of delivering part of a UGX 2 million facilitation believed to have been connected to the crime. He is also alleged to have transported the deceased’s shamba boy (house help) from Mukono to Mbale Town shortly after the murder was committed.
Investigators say Adam had been under discreet surveillance for several days prior to his arrest. Eyewitnesses at a boda boda stage near Millennium Hotel in Mukono reported a dramatic scene as security operatives closed in.
“He ran like a headless chicken when he saw the security officers,” one eyewitness recounted. “He dashed into the hotel premises and locked himself inside a sauna room. They had to apply force to get him out.”
Security personnel later apprehended him without further incident.

Authorities believe Adam’s call records, financial transactions, and movements could provide critical insights into possible coordination between suspects. Detectives are particularly interested in establishing whether the boda boda rider acted independently or as part of a broader plan.
The Missing Link: Shamba Boy on the Run
Central to the investigation is the deceased’s shamba boy, who remains at large. Police believe he may hold crucial information regarding the sequence of events leading to Tumwebaze’s death.
Preliminary findings suggest that the house help was in communication with Adam both before and after the murder. Investigators are working to determine whether the alleged facilitation was directly linked to the crime and what role, if any, the house help may have played.
The reported transfer of the shamba boy from Mukono to Mbale Town shortly after the killing has heightened suspicions of a coordinated effort to evade detection. Law enforcement agencies across districts have reportedly been alerted as the manhunt continues.
Forensics and Digital Evidence
Sources familiar with the probe say detectives are relying heavily on forensic evidence and digital footprints to piece together the case. Mobile phone data analysis, CCTV footage, and financial transaction records are said to be central to the inquiry.
Investigators are also examining the crime scene for signs of forced entry, struggle, or staged evidence. While officials have not released detailed findings, they maintain that the nature of the injuries and the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body suggest premeditation.
The involvement of individuals allegedly close to the deceased has raised questions about motive. Authorities have not ruled out domestic disputes, financial disagreements, or professional conflicts as possible triggers.
Community in Shock
The murder has deeply unsettled staff and students at Uganda Christian University. Colleagues have described Tumwebaze as dedicated and principled, someone who played a significant role in shaping academic programs and mentoring students.
In Mukono, residents have expressed concern about rising violent crime and are calling for swift justice. Some have urged authorities to improve security measures in residential neighborhoods, while others have cautioned against speculation until investigations are complete.
University officials have not yet issued a detailed statement regarding the arrests but have called for prayers and solidarity during what they described as “a profoundly painful time.”
Search for Motive Continues
As detectives dig deeper, attention now turns to uncovering the motive behind a crime that has left many searching for answers. The arrests of the husband and the boda boda rider mark a significant development, but key pieces of the puzzle remain missing.
Police insist that the investigation is far from over. More arrests have not been ruled out, and authorities say they are following multiple leads.
For now, the UCU community and the broader public await clarity in a case that has shaken confidence and raised troubling questions about trust, betrayal, and the circumstances that led to the tragic loss of a senior academic leader.
As the legal process unfolds, all eyes remain on investigators to determine who orchestrated the crime—and why.
