The Uganda Police Force is under growing public scrutiny after failing to immediately comment on the alarming disappearance of Sarah Nambogo and her young daughter, who were allegedly abducted in broad daylight from the premises of the Kampala Club on Friday morning.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage across social media and civil society, with many Ugandans demanding transparency, accountability, and the immediate release of the missing mother and child. Nambogo is a well-known and respected member of the Fast & Furious running club, a community that has since taken the lead in documenting and publicising details surrounding the incident.

According to a statement released by the Fast & Furious running club, the abduction occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Friday, a time when the Kampala Club—one of the city’s most exclusive and heavily frequented social venues—is usually bustling with activity. Nambogo was reportedly taken from the southern gate of the Kampala Club, raising further questions about security and surveillance in the area.

The club stated that the operation was carried out by five individuals travelling in a silver Toyota Noah, registration number UBP 791G. Witnesses at the scene reported that the group, which included at least one woman, was armed with an AK-47 rifle, suggesting a highly coordinated and deliberate operation.

In a disturbing turn of events, the assailants reportedly first approached Nambogo’s daughter. They allegedly asked the child to guide them to her mother. Unaware of the danger, the daughter reportedly entered the vehicle and led the group to where her mother was standing at the southern gate. Moments later, both mother and daughter were forcibly bundled into the vehicle, which then sped off, leaving bystanders shocked and helpless.

The Fast & Furious running club further confirmed that video footage of the incident exists, capturing both the vehicle involved and the individuals who carried out the abduction. This revelation has intensified public pressure on law enforcement agencies, with many questioning why no immediate action or official communication has followed.

High-Profile Demands for Accountability

In the absence of any official statement from security agencies, several prominent Ugandan figures took to social media to express outrage and demand answers from the authorities.

Robert Kabushenga, the former Chief Executive Officer of Vision Group, directly addressed the Uganda Police Force in a strongly worded public message. He wrote: “Uganda Police, I would like to know why & where you are detaining Sarah Nambogo of @FastnFurious40 & @teammatooke & her daughter. She was picked up in broad daylight by armed men in a private vehicle. We want to extend her our assistance & solidarity.”

The incident has also drawn political attention. National Unity Platform President Bobi Wine linked Nambogo’s disappearance to what he described as a disturbing pattern of abductions across the country. He referenced the simultaneous missing case of Rev. Fr. Deusdedit Ssekabira, arguing that the two incidents were symptomatic of a broader breakdown in law and order.

The opposition leader described the abduction as further evidence of “growing lawlessness” in the country and urged citizens to remain vigilant and actively resist what he portrayed as an increasingly dangerous trend.

Other notable voices joined the chorus of concern. Prominent lawyer Eron Kiiza condemned what he referred to as “Daily abductions,” describing them as “gross” and unacceptable in a society governed by the rule of law. Meanwhile, Prince Sega publicly added his voice to the growing calls for accountability, demanding “Justice for Sarah and her daughter.”

As of Saturday morning, the Uganda Police Force had not issued any official statement addressing the abduction of Sarah Nambogo and her daughter. Authorities had neither confirmed their whereabouts nor clarified whether they were in custody, further deepening public anxiety and speculation.

With video evidence reportedly available and the incident occurring in a highly visible public space, pressure continues to mount on security agencies to explain what happened, identify those responsible, and ensure the safe return of the missing mother and child.
