My boyfriend almost left me when I couldn’t refund him his 250K Salon money.

When I completed my studies in Front Office training with a reputable INSTITUTION in Mombasa last year, I decided to give a try to a salon business as I waited for an employment opportunity which was QUITE delaying.

I talked to my friends to help find me a salon space which I finally located and asked my boyfriend to help pay the initial rent and equip it. He actually helped me with equipment worth sh 250,000.

I rolled on the business and clients started streaming in during the second month with the third month being my best with close to sh 60,000 in profits. My boy was happy that finally things were working out quite fast; little did we know that soon reality of business challenges will dawn to us. Few clients in a day and hardships of raising rents suddenly became my main challenge throughout the subsequent months. I even fired my two assistants.

I stated staring at the closure of the business with my boyfriend having fallen short of what to say. I remember him asking me if I still had hopes with the salon business but I told him not to give up very fast since, maybe, this was part of any business growth.

One night as I lay on the bed looking up in deep meditation, I started asking myself many questions ‘What could be the problem. Am I cursed and why am I so unlucky in this world?’ I never got an answer though and decided to seek advice from my close friends.

“Remember this is the only business I relied on for survival and if it closes down, I will not even pay my bills. My boyfriend may also dumb me for wasting his money”.

With that in mind, I sought solutions from around. One friend suggested I move it to another area. Another one told me to open a hotel instead. All these advices never resonated with me well.
