From Village Hardships to City Life, How I Changed My Destiny

My story may sound like a scene from a Hollywood movie, but it is real and happened to me during the most difficult period of my life.

I never reached Form Four because my parents couldn’t afford the school fees, even though I was a bright student who scored 445 marks in my Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams.

Let me first introduce myself. My name is Mercy, I am 23 years old, and I come from a modest background in Kakamega County. I moved to Nairobi to find opportunities when life at home became unbearable. I also wanted to begin supporting my struggling family.

I went to live with my cousin and his wife in Buruburu, Nairobi. They welcomed me warmly, and life with them has been great. I am grateful for their kindness, support, and prayers as I look for a job to help my family back home.
