Secrets Leak On What Really Killed AIGP Kataratambi – His Final Moments

Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Charles Kataratambi, a longtime senior officer in the Uganda Police Force, has died after battling diabetes for several months. He passed away at Nakasero Hospital where he had been admitted for specialized care.

Kataratambi’s health reportedly deteriorated shortly after President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni appointed him Director of Human Rights and Legal Services at Police Headquarters in Naguru. Sources say he was later flown to Germany for specialized treatment before returning to Uganda for home-based care, where his condition continued to worsen.

Kataratambi was a well-known figure in the force, rising steadily through the ranks over nearly three decades of service. He previously headed the Police Land Protection Unit, where he gained national attention for spearheading operations against illegal land evictions and fraud. He was later promoted to Commissioner of Police and eventually Assistant Inspector General of Police, one of the highest ranks in the force.

Funeral arrangements for AIGP Kataratambi are expected to be announced by the Uganda Police Force in the coming days.

The announcement was made through an official statement released on Thursday, October 2, 2025, confirming that the senior officer had died earlier in the day. The cause of his death has not yet been disclosed.

“The Uganda Police Force fraternity deeply regrets to announce the untimely passing of Assistant Inspector General of Police Kataratambi Charles, Director of Human Rights and Legal Services, which occurred today, 02 October 2025,” the statement read.

AIGP Kataratambi was a highly respected figure within the Police Force, known for his integrity, professionalism, and commitment to upholding human rights and the rule of law. His sudden passing has been described by the UPF as a devastating blow—not only to the institution but to his loved ones and the nation as a whole.

The Police statement further emphasized the significance of his contribution and the void left by his departure: the Force described his death as “a great loss to the Force, his family, and the country at large.”

At the time of the announcement, details regarding the burial and final send-off arrangements had not yet been finalized. Authorities have assured the public that this information will be communicated in due course.

Meanwhile, an outpouring of condolences continues to flow from colleagues, partners, and members of the public who knew AIGP Kataratambi or were impacted by his work.

In a heartfelt message, the Uganda Police Force extended its support and sympathy to the grieving family and close associates of the late officer. “The UPF extended its deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and colleagues of the late AIGP Kataratambi,” the statement continued.

“May his soul rest in eternal peace,” the Force said, as tributes continue to pour in for a man remembered for his dedication to justice and service to the people of Uganda.
