Ex VP Gilbert Bukenya Raises Questions Over Son’s Mysterious Death: “His Body Had a Missing Eye”

Former Vice President Gilbert Balibaseka Bukenya has cast doubt on the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of his son, revealing that the body was found with a missing eye.

According to Bukenya, a trained medical doctor, the injury was suspicious and led him to believe his son may have been killed before the accident. He suspects the reported crash could have been staged to mask a possible murder.

He further stated that, to this day, he has not seen the official postmortem report and is always being told to “wait.”

In an interview seen by this reporter, Bukenya disclosed that he personally knew the doctor who conducted the postmortem. “But the doctor also refused to tell me anything,” he said, expressing deep frustration.

What troubles him most is the condition in which his son’s body was found. “His body was clean everywhere except for the missing eye,” Bukenya noted.

He revealed that he still keeps the clothes his son wore during the accident, stored safely at his home.

Bryan Bukenya, a lawyer by profession, died at the age of 26 while nearing the completion of a cadet officers’ course at Kabamba Military School.

The fatal crash occurred on the Mityana–Kampala road and left behind a trail of questions — and a three-month-old baby.

Bryan was among six individuals traveling from Kabamba to Kampala in a double-cabin pickup when the driver reportedly lost control. The vehicle overturned at Bira Trading Centre, about 13km from the city.

In his latest interview, the former vice president also raised suspicions about how the car involved in the crash was moved and handled across different garages.

Born on January 2, 1983, Bryan Bukenya’s academic journey took him from St. Savio Junior Primary School in Kisubi to St. Mary’s College Kisubi for O’level, then to King’s College Budo for A’level. He later pursued a law degree at Coventry University in the UK.

Upon returning to Uganda, Bryan completed his clerkship at the Court Martial and went on to enroll in the cadet course.

Gilbert Bukenya shared that both he and Gen Ivan Koreta had encouraged Bryan to join the army, noting that the UPDF was then in the early stages of building the Court Martial and needed more trained lawyers.
