Following the horrific murder of a 66-year-old lecturer whose half-burned body was found only metres from his home, Nakasero locals in central Kampala were left in great shock.

According to police and family sources, the dead was Allan Kioko Kitavi, a veteran instructor at the Uganda Electricity Training Institute.

On the evening of Thursday, July 31, the startling event happened and has started a thorough investigation by Kampala Metropolitan Police.

Kitavi had returned home in good spirits around 5 p.m. and later told his family he was going to a nearby shopping mall to do some chores, the family said. The family started looking for him in the neighborhood when he didn’t come back before dark.

Sadly, their search stopped tragically about 10 p.m. when they found Kitavi’s dead body 30 meters from his home. Police think the lecturer was killed and his body partially burned, maybe to get rid of evidence.

The events running up to the murder are still being gathered by police. As of Saturday morning, no arrests have been made and the reason is unknown.

As detectives search the area for hints, the body has been transported to Mulago Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Investigation are still going on, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokeswoman ASP Luke Owoyesigyire said, urging anyone with knowledge to come forward.

A different murder is being investigated in Kapchorwa District, eastern Uganda.

Police claim Paul Cherop, 52, was murdered after a vicious fight with a suspected love affair led to violence. The event happened at Cherop’s sister’s house compound.

Eyewitnesses claim that a furious argument between Cherop and another guy became fatal when the suspect took a kitchen knife and stabbed Cherop in the chest.

The murderer ran from the scene; the murder weapon was found and stored as evidence.

Since then, Kapchorwa police have started a manhunt for the suspect and encouraged locals to help with any information that might help to capture him.

These two catastrophes have raised worries regarding growing violence in rural as well as metropolitan regions. In their search for justice for the victims, officials are urging vigilance and pledge to turn no stone left.
