Police have arrested a young woman identified as Eva Mbabazi, the last person seen with the late Dr Spire Kiggundu, the respected proprietor of Henrob Hospital and a renowned gynaecologist.

The shocking revelations follow days of investigation into the mysterious death of Dr Kiggundu, who was found lifeless in a guest house room on June 22.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, Eva was tracked and arrested in Seeta, Mukono District, and is currently detained at Kajjansi Police Station.

During interrogation, Eva confessed that she had known the late doctor since 2018 when she first visited Henrob Hospital with her sick sister.

Their relationship turned romantic despite Dr Kiggundu being married. They reportedly kept the affair secret for years.

On the evening of June 22, Eva says she met the doctor at a guest house where he had checked in alone.

Inside the room, she noticed two bottles of water, juice, and two new HIV testing kits, but she said there were no condoms in sight.

Eva claims they engaged in romance and a “sex marathon” for about 30 minutes before Dr Kiggundu suddenly began to struggle to breathe.

Believing it could be epilepsy (locally known as ensimbu), she initially stayed with him, hoping he would recover. But as his condition worsened and panic took over, she left the room in fear.

She told detectives that she later returned briefly to collect a perfume the doctor had gifted her, only to find him lying motionless. Realizing she couldn’t help, she fled again, this time for good.

Eva admitted to trying to call him from a bodaboda on her way home, but he never picked up.

CCTV footage and phone records later confirmed she was the last known person to see him alive, leading to her arrest.

Police continue to investigate the cause of death, and a toxicology report is expected to reveal whether poisoning or a natural condition may have contributed.
