On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, an unexpected event unfolded at Christ’s Cathedral Bugembe in Jinja when 25-year-old Stuart Maganda climbed onto the cathedral roof, startling churchgoers and drawing a swift response from police and members of the community.

According to a statement from the Cathedral, Maganda was safely brought down thanks to coordinated efforts by the Uganda Police and concerned Christians. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the situation was resolved without harm to Maganda or the responders.

Church authorities later confirmed that Maganda has a history of mental health challenges, reportedly linked to drug abuse. He is a familiar figure in the Bugembe area, particularly in Nakayonyi village, and is known for his mental health struggles. Church leaders believe his actions were a result of his condition, which impairs his decision-making.

To address misinformation circulating on social media and in the press, the Cathedral issued an official statement clarifying the situation. They assured the public that the matter is now under control and efforts are underway to repair any damage caused.

The Dean of the Cathedral, The Very Rev. Canon Dr. Joy Mukisa Isabirye, urged the public—and especially the Christian community—to remain calm and grounded in faith. Quoting scripture, she reminded the congregation, “No weapon formed against us shall prosper” (Isaiah 54:17) and “The Lord our God will never forsake us” (Hebrews 13:5).

While the event was unsettling, church leaders emphasized that their faith remains strong and that they are focused on restoring order and continuing their ministry.
