On the night of Tuesday, May 6, 2025, fear spread through Busia Village in Kuluba Subcounty, Koboko District, when unknown gunmen believed to be from South Sudan crossed into Uganda.

The attackers, who were reportedly dressed in military uniforms, stormed the home of a local man named Kepo Richard at around 8:48 PM.

According to reports, the gunmen held Richard’s family at gunpoint and stole 18 million Ugandan Shillings, which is around. But that wasn’t all—they also kidnapped a Ugandan driver named Luis Amis. The attackers are now demanding a ransom of 10 million Ugandan Shillings to release him.

This scary incident has caused great concern in the area. The Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) and police have been sent to Koboko District to calm the situation and protect the community.

This is not the first time such attacks have happened. In the past, there have been other cross-border raids from South Sudan.

In 2017, gunmen wearing similar military uniforms attacked villages in Uganda and stole cattle. In 2022, another raid took place in Yumbe District, where one of the suspected raiders was killed.

Many people blame the unstable situation in South Sudan, where fighting between ethnic groups and poverty have made life hard. Sometimes, criminals wear South Sudanese military uniforms to scare people, making it hard to know who the real attackers are.

As security forces continue their search and investigation, families near the border remain worried. The community is calling for stronger border patrols to prevent such attacks in the future.
