Shocking!! Makerere University Vice Chancellor Nawangwe Involved In Academic Fraud – Secret Documents Leak

The Ugandan government has launched an investigation into allegations of corruption, abuse of office, and academic fraud at Makerere University, targeting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe.

Minister of State for Ethics and Integrity Rose Lilly Akello directed the IGG to probe claims that Nawangwe was promoted without meeting academic requirements, engaged in bribery, and made illegal appointments.

Anti-Corruption Initiative raises concerns about inconsistencies in Nawangwe’s academic records, with his name appearing in multiple variations across documents.

The report alleges that only two of his five publications met Makerere’s promotion criteria, questioning his eligibility for the professor title and vice-chancellorship.

Additionally, the university has been embroiled in internal power struggles. Dr. Deus Kamunyu and Dr. Jude Ssempebwa, key academic figures, were controversially suspended, allegedly to silence opposition before a crucial University Council meeting.

The session, influenced by Nawangwe, overturned the appointment of Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Anthony Mugisha.

Critics accuse Nawangwe of authoritarian leadership, suppressing academic freedom by cracking down on student protests and staff strikes.

The IGG’s findings could have major implications, as President Museveni is reportedly considering reassigning Nawangwe.

Minister Akello has urged swift action, calling for whistleblower protection and a report on measures taken to restore governance at Uganda’s top institution.
