General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the son of Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni and a key figure in the military, has caused uproar with his latest remarks targeting opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine.

In a series of statements posted on X Muhoozi stated he can’t stand for an election while Bobi Wine is a candidate too.

“I won’t stand in an election with Kabobi! I will simply shoot him dead,” he said.

in an apparent reference to Bobi Wine, whom he often refers to as “Kabobi.”

The general, who has been widely speculated to harbor presidential ambitions, further issued another threat against Bobi Wine.

“Tell Kabobi I didn’t beat him enough in Arua. I’m coming for him again. This time I’ll beat him properly.”

This appears to reference the 2018 incident in Arua, where Bobi Wine and his supporters were brutally arrested and tortured following a by-election campaign.

The remarks are likely going to spark outrage among opposition supporters and human rights activists, who view them as an open threat against Uganda’s leading opposition figure.

Bobi Wine, the leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has repeatedly accused the government of using violence to suppress dissent.

The remarks add to growing concerns about political intimidation and the shrinking democratic space in Uganda ahead of future elections.
