EXCLUSIVE: Kawempe North Byelection Expose Mpuuga’s Democratic Alliance As A Non Factor in 2026

With the general elections drawing closer, several political pundits anticipated Mpuuga to be a crucial kingpin in the 2026 general elections but this has not been the case as his DA Political outfit has turned out to be another briefcase party.

In the prevailing Kawempe North byelection, Mpuuga and his DA were anticipated to have a mega show and demonstrate their significance by rallying behind a formidable candidate in the calibre and demeanor of Muhammad Luswa Luwemba whom they had religiously backed from the start.

However, as time went on, Mpuuga whose spinelessness is historical as he swings like a pendulum bob from one edge to the other, it turned out that FDC/PFF’s Muhamood Mutazindwa aka Sweet cake would be their preferable choice.

Despite having the DA endorsement, Mutazindwa has failed to pick up and in fact even lousy self made candidates like Nsereko Moses or UPC’s Engena Mwaitum (son to Obote) are more sounding than Mpuuga’s choice.

This alone has depicted that the Democratic Alliance coalition will have a marathon to convince Ugandans that they are an existing reality beyond Mpuuga’s imagination. It should be remembered that during his hyperbolic ‘big announcement’ as he cut ties with NUP, Mpuuga vowed to front candidates across all elective positions just to demonstrate his exaggerated influence.

But the Kawempe North polls have now reduced him to a mere spectator whose voice is only heard in the corridors of parliament speaking about security brutality just like any MP would do.
