After months of vacation, hundreds of thousands of primary school leavers will join Ugandan secondary schools on Monday, February 17, 2025, in Senior One. Many will be yearning to join Uganda’s Most Expensive Secondary Schools.
As the selection exercise starts on January 30, the updated fees structures for Uganda’s top schools is expected to come to light.
But looking at the fees structures for as far as the Senior One class of the 2023 Academic Year, parents hoping to send their sons and daughters to the so-called top schools should tighten their belts.
With most schools not in the habit of reducing school fees, parents are expected to part with between Shs1m and Shs4m for just one term in Uganda’s most expensive secondary schools.
And that will only be tuition. Other necessities and functions fees will make the figure a little higher, and secondary education expensive for many in this developing country.
Parents who cannot afford the expensive schools may end up settling for privately owned moderate schools which perform better but keep increasing fees each year as their grades improve.
The rest may have to settle for less expensive government owned Universal Secondary Education (USE) schools where performance may not be as good as in the expensive private schools.
