Its a moment of grief in Kawempe North and among the friends and family of Honorable Ssegirinya Muhammad who has been confirmed dead at Lubaga hospital in Kampala this afternoon.

The deceased had battled sickness for quite long but the situation worsened in the prison where he was held on remand for over 500 days as government accused him and his counterpart of Makindye West Allan Ssewanyana of being behind the famous Masaka Bijambiya which claimed lives of over 30 people.

Ssegirinya’s long battle with sickness sent him to the Aga Khan Hospital for months in Nairobi where he got medication, showed signs of recovery and started even making plans to resume his parliament duties when he returned to the country.

Sad, the situation resumed even before he get’s back to his feet fully until today when he lost the battle at Lubaga hospital.

In a press conference held at NUP’s Makerere-Kavule based headquarters, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu the party president has issued a hint on the tentative burial program which will start with a vigil at the party headquarters at 4pm today.

He will also be honored in parliament tomorrow followed by prayers at Mbogo Mosque in Kawempe.

The body will be taken to his home in Kawempe for a vigil and will be laid to rest on Sunday in Masaka. Being a Muslim, he would have been buried today but Bobi Wine says the family requested the religious leaders to give them more time to allow his other relatives who are not in the country to fly in on Saturday.

“UPDATE: @NUP_Ug president @HEBobiwine has announced arrangements for the send-off of the late Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya. The proceedings will begin with a vigil at 4PM at the NUP headquarters. Ssegirinya will also be honored in Parliament on Friday, followed by prayers…”— Daily Monitor (@DailyMonitor) January 9, 2025
