Makindye Mayor Alhajj Mulyanyama Pays Tribute to Cardinal Wamala on His 98th Birthday

It was a sunny day in Kampala as Makindye Division Mayor Alhajj Ali Nganda Mulyanyama made his way to visit a very special individual – Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala, Archbishop emeritus of Kampala, on his 98th birthday. As he arrived, he was filled with excitement and reverence, eager to pay his respects to the renowned cardinal.

As they sat together, Mayor Mulyanyama extended revolutionary greetings from Makindye and Kampala, acknowledging Cardinal Wamala’s remarkable life and legacy. The two then shared a heartfelt moment of prayer, seeking blessings and guidance.

Cardinal Wamala, born on December 15, 1926, in Kamaggwa, has lived an extraordinary life dedicated to serving the Lord and the people of Uganda.¹ From his early days in Bukalasa Minor Seminary to his ordination as a priest in Rome, Cardinal Wamala has demonstrated unwavering commitment to his faith.

As they conversed, Mayor Mulyanyama was struck by Cardinal Wamala’s remarkable journey, which has taken him from being the Vicar General of Masaka to becoming the Archbishop of Kampala. His tenure has been marked by significant milestones, including being the President of the Episcopal Conference of Uganda and the first Rector of the New Uganda Martyrs University.

Mulyanyama was joined by Hon Josephine Mulamata , a Councillor in Makindye and Ms Sarah Muwonge Mukisa ,An administration officer in the NUP President’s Office.

The visit was a testament to the deep respect and admiration that Mayor Mulyanyama and the people of Kampala have for Cardinal Wamala. As they parted ways, Mayor Mulyanyama presented Cardinal Wamala with a special gift, symbolizing the community’s gratitude for his tireless service.

The 98th birthday celebration was a poignant reminder of Cardinal Wamala’s enduring legacy, which continues to inspire generations of Ugandans.

As Mayor Mulyanyama departed, he felt grateful for the opportunity to honor this remarkable individual and to learn from his wealth of experience.
