Uganda’s State Minister for Kampala, Kyofatogabye Kabuye, has blamed Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago for the Kiteezi landfill problem, saying the mayor’s poor leadership caused the problem.
Speaking during an interview with NBS Television, Kyofatogabye didn’t mince words, demanding Lukwago’s resignation.
“Why doesn’t Erias Lukwago resign? What has he accomplished in the last 15 years? What alternatives has he proposed, aside from calling for people to be arrested?” he asked.
The Minister went further, accusing Lukwago of questionable wealth.
“I don’t own a plaza in Kampala, but Erias Lukwago has built one in just two years. How did he manage that with the salary he earns?” he wondered, suggesting that corruption may be at play.
Kyofatogabye claimed that there is an ongoing struggle between him and the Lord Mayor over the control of the city.“
It’s on record that Lord Mayor doesn’t like me because we are fighting for space in the jungle. I represent NRM, and he represents the people. We are in a battle of who controls the city,” he said.
