Veteran journalist and former President Museveni’s press secretary Joseph Tamale Mirundi died last month at Kisubi in Kampala. He was buried days later leaving behind several children and wives.

Mirundi who once worked with Buganda Kingdom’s Radio CBS fm sometimes didn’t mince his words while throwing several jibes at the Mengo establishment and the leaders including Katikiro Charles Peter Mayiga among others.

During and after the funeral, his family kept asking for forgiveness from the Buganda Kingdom saying the deceased was human bound to make mistakes and so his family and himself should be forgiven.

Since his death and funeral, no Buganda Kingdom official has ever come to speak about forgiving Tamale for the abuses and jibes he used to throw at the Kingdom during his media programs on radios, Television and Online channels.

Tamale Mirundi’s family including his children, Wives and other relatives visited Bulange Mengo (the Kingdom’s Headquarters) and officially apologized to the Kabaka, the Kingdom and it’s leaders over the late’s shortcomings.

In response on behalf of the Buganda Kingdom and himself, Katikiro Charles Peter Mayiga granted them audience and also accepted the apology and forgave the Late Tamale.

The Kingdom’s official X account (formerly Twitter) shared images of the meeting between the Katikkiro and the Mirundi family, which included Mr Ssebunnya, Mirundi’s widow, and some of his children.

During the visit, Katikkiro Mayiga spoke to the family and reiterated the importance of responsible communication, especially in the digital age.

“The internet never forgets. If you misuse it, you will live to regret your actions in the future,” Mayiga stated.

His remarks were in light of Mirundi’s controversial comments and actions towards the Buganda Kingdom, many of which had been widely publicised through various media channels.

Despite the tension that once existed between the kingdom and Mirundi, Katikkiro Mayiga acknowledged the family’s efforts to seek reconciliation.

“Apologising is a noble act, and I commend the family for coming out to apologise on behalf of the late Mirundi,” he said.

The Prime Minister added that he officially accepted the apology and asked for God’s forgiveness for any wrongs committed by the deceased.
