Dr. Tanga Odoi, the Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission, has firmly dismissed any prospects of the party switching to a parliamentary system of election ahead of the 2026 elections.
During a live interview on Next Radio 106.1 FM, Odoi pointed out that President Yoweri Museveni, who will be 82 years old in 2026, remains unmatched in political leadership and wisdom.
In a post on X, He asserted that Museveni’s sharp thinking and deep understanding of issues keep him ahead of his competition.
“We are not going for a parliamentary system of election because our candidate to be, Museveni, is too strong to be defeated by these young leaders who think they can run where they need to walk,” Odoi said.
He emphasized that Museveni is stronger even in his old age, adding, “President Museveni at 80 can show you that he is stronger than your leader at 40. His thinking is right, his grasp of issues is very correct, and you cannot defeat him in any debate.”
Dr. Odoi highlighted the NRM’s focus on the “Mass Line” approach of mass education and immunization for all Ugandans.He reaffirmed that Museveni would contest in the 2026 elections.
