Ntungamo Municipality MP Jonah Musinguzi has lambasted Kiira Municipality legislator Ibrahim Ssemuju Nganda for his hypocritical stance on corruption. Musinguzi, who signed the censure motion alongside Mukono municipality legislator Betty Nambooze, criticized Ssemuju for refusing to sign the motion, citing his friendship with Mpuuga, despite consistently criticizing President Museveni over corruption.
Appearing on CBS Fm, Ssemuju claimed that even if the motion gathers enough signatures, he will not participate in discussions related to Mpuuga and the other commissioners who awarded themselves a whopping Shs1.2 billion. However, Musinguzi has called out Ssemuju’s double standards, accusing him of preaching water but drinking wine when it comes to corruption.
Theodore Ssekikubo, the leader of the censure motion, has announced that today is the final day for collecting signatures. Despite the NRM party’s efforts to bar its legislators from signing the motion, several have defied the directive and added their signatures.
Musinguzi has also exposed the sympathizers of Mpuuga, who are claiming that the budget for service awards was included in the budget, but he revealed that it was not debated and is not even on the Hansard. Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, a Ugandan journalist and politician, was born on September 23, 1973, in Bijaaba Village, Kyazanga Municipality, Lwengo District. His parents, Hajji Ali Nganda Nkwanga and Hajati Sophia Nalwooga, had forty-eight and sixteen children, respectively. He is currently representing Kira Municipality in the 10th Parliament (2021 to 2026).
Ssemujju attended the Bijaaba Islamic Institute, obtaining his Primary Leaving Certificate and later joined the secondary school section. He completed his secondary education in Senior 2. He also taught journalism at the Islamic University in Uganda.
Ssemujju’s career in journalism began in 1995, working as a reporter for the Daily Monitor until 2004. He then served as the political editor at the Weekly Observer until 2011. In 2016, he was elected as the Member of Parliament for Kira Municipality, a position he has held since then. He chairs the Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities, and State Enterprises and is a member of the Committee on Defence and Internal Affairs and the Business Committee.
Throughout his political career, Ssemujju has been known for his strong stance against corruption and his advocacy for good governance . He has also been a vocal critic of the government, often appearing on talk shows to discuss political issues . In the 2021 general elections, he retained his seat despite the “red wave” of the National Unity Platform (NUP) sweeping most positions in the central region .
