Frank Gashumba didn’t mince words when he addressed heads of security agencies, including General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces, urging them to resign if they couldn’t safeguard Ugandans and their properties.

In a passionate post on X (formerly Twitter), the outspoken socio-political commentator expressed his frustration, citing the alarming frequency of assaults, robberies, and murders captured in social media clips across Kampala. He called out the security apparatus for failing to address these rampant crimes effectively.

Gashumba’s sentiments echo the concerns of millions of Ugandans, particularly in the wake of recent harrowing incidents like the brutal attack on Ben Kiwanuka Street in downtown Kampala, where a man was viciously assaulted and robbed in broad daylight.

Tagging President Museveni, Speaker Anita Among, and various media outlets, Gashumba’s message reverberated across social media platforms, highlighting the widespread disillusionment with the current state of security in the country.

As a prominent supporter of General Muhoozi, Gashumba’s criticism carries significant weight, challenging the very essence of the NRM’s promise to restore security and stability to Uganda. Despite his affiliations, Gashumba didn’t hesitate to hold those in power accountable for their failures.

Efforts to reach Gashumba for further clarification on his outburst proved unsuccessful, leaving the public to speculate on the underlying motives behind his impassioned plea.

Gashumba’s outcry struck a chord with many Ugandans, including victims of insecurity like Gastavus Kakaire, who recounted a harrowing experience of a home invasion. Despite being a law-abiding citizen, Kakaire expressed his frustration with the lack of accountability and protection from the authorities.

In response to mounting pressure, the police announced a successful operation in Kira Division, resulting in the arrest of 15 suspected hardcore criminals. This operation, aimed at curbing the recent surge in criminal activities, underscores the ongoing efforts to maintain security ahead of upcoming events like Martyrs Day celebrations.

As the debate on security continues to intensify, Gashumba’s bold stance serves as a rallying cry for accountability and tangible action to address the root causes of insecurity plaguing Ugandan society.
