State House Speaks On Appointment Of New Inspector General Of Police

In response to circulating rumors, Mr. Faruk Kirunda, Deputy Press Secretary to the President of Uganda, addressed alleged appointments of a new Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Deputy IGP. Social media claims suggested Maj Gen. Leopold Kyanda as the new IGP and AIGP Grace Akullo as Deputy IGP, with Maj Gen. Geoffrey Tumusiime Katsigazi supposedly appointed Uganda’s Military attaché to Beijing. However, Mr. Kirunda clarified that no such appointments have been made, emphasizing that official channels would be used to inform the public of any presidential appointments.

“The news circulating on social media regarding the appointment of the new Inspector General of Police and the Deputy is fake news. The general public will be informed when the President makes these appointments – PPU,” stated Mr. Kirunda via his official communication channels.

Former IGP Martin Okoth Ochola’s contract concluded on March 4, 2024, having been appointed on the same date in 2018, succeeding Gen. Edward Kale Kayihura.
