President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni expressed his admiration for the significant role played by former Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. John Patrick Amama Mbabazi, and his wife, Mrs. Jacqueline Mbabazi, in realigning Uganda’s trajectory towards progress under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government.

In a heartfelt address delivered alongside the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Kataha Museveni, President Museveni lauded the Mbabazis during their 50th marriage anniversary celebration at Serena Hotel, Kampala, on April 6, 2024.

Recognizing the couple’s enduring commitment to the nation’s cause amid the tumultuous resistance era, President Museveni highlighted the profound sacrifices made by freedom fighters like Rt. Hon. Mbabazi and Jacqueline, emphasizing their pivotal role in shaping Uganda’s history.

Moreover, President Museveni reminisced about his early encounters with Rt. Hon. Mbabazi, tracing back to the 1970s political landscape. He recalled how Mbabazi’s involvement, alongside comrades like Kahinda Otafiire, revitalized essential networks crucial for the resistance movement’s success.

Grateful for their steadfast support, President Museveni acknowledged the invaluable contributions of Rt. Hon. Mbabazi and Gen. Otafiire in the recruitment and training of FRONASA fighters, underscoring their unwavering commitment to NRM’s core principles.

Despite occasional differences, President Museveni assured Rt. Hon. Mbabazi of his enduring respect and appreciation for his past and future contributions to Uganda’s transformation. Drawing parallels with other past collaborators like Kategaya, he emphasized the paramount importance of unity in advancing Africa’s interests.

In response, Rt. Hon. Amama Mbabazi reflected on the profound significance of his partnership with Mrs. Jacqueline amid the adversities of the struggle against dictatorship. He described their union not merely as a matrimonial contract but as a pact of resilience and mutual support, forged in the crucible of uncertainty.

Expressing gratitude to President Museveni for his unwavering support, Rt. Hon. Mbabazi credited the President’s leadership for fostering unity and solidarity within the nation.

Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, former Prime Minister, joined in congratulating the Mbabazis on their remarkable milestone, lauding their steadfast friendship and reliability over the years. He also praised President Museveni’s discernment in recognizing Rt. Hon. Mbabazi’s capabilities, evident in his diverse ministerial assignments.

Mrs. Jacqueline Mbabazi, in turn, attributed their 50 years of marital bliss to divine grace and the unwavering support of friends, family, and the Church. She expressed heartfelt appreciation to Rt. Hon. Mbabazi for his enduring companionship, embracing both the joys and imperfections of their journey together.

In essence, the celebration of Rt. Hon. Amama Mbabazi and Mrs. Jacqueline Mbabazi’s 50th wedding anniversary served as a poignant tribute to their unwavering commitment to Uganda’s progress and the enduring bonds of friendship and unity that define the nation’s collective journey towards prosperity.
