The inauguration ceremony of the administrative block at Ruhengyere Barracks, famously known as Camp Rufu situated in Kiruhura district, western Uganda, was officiated by the Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
Expressing gratitude, General Kainerugaba commended the 206 Commando Brigade for their valor and adept utilization of limited resources, acknowledging them as exemplary warriors within the UPDF.
During his address, General Kainerugaba, who also serves as the Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, lauded the commando force as a paragon unit within the armed forces, underscoring their significance.
The naming of ‘Semuliki House’ commemorates the seminal battle against the ADF near River Semliki in Rwebisengo back in 2007, symbolizing the valor and historic feats of the commando unit.
Highlighting the frugality exhibited by the commando force in their operational endeavors, General Kainerugaba reminisced about the pivotal battle where the commandos showcased their mettle by prevailing against the ADF, solidifying their reputation as formidable combatants.
The commissioning ceremony was graced by dignitaries including Commander Land Forces, Lieutenant General Kayanja Muhanga, Artillery Division Commander, Brigadier Dan Kakono, and Brigadier Asaph Mweteise, the Commando Brigade commander.
In a symbolic gesture, General Kainerugaba embarked on a tour of the newly inaugurated administrative block, reinforcing the significance of the occasion.
In a show of solidarity and camaraderie, the army chief posed for a group photograph alongside leaders of the commando force within the precincts of Semuliki House.
The elevation of the commando battalion to a brigade in 2021 by President Museveni, following the graduation of 1,256 new commando soldiers, underscores the strategic importance of the Commando Brigade within the Special Forces Command, entrusted with executing specialized operations.
In a directive issued in 2023, General Muhoozi urged the commandos at Ruhengyere to uphold ethical standards, emphasizing the importance of professionalism and maintaining optimal fitness levels in discharging their duties.
