The Parliament Speaker, Rt. Hon. Anita Among, alongside her Deputy, Thomas Tayebwa, led a delegation of Members of Parliament to Bulange Mengo, the Buganda Kingdom Headquarters, to extend their support for the 2024 Kabaka’s Birthday Run. This initiative, championed by Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II as UNAIDS ambassador in Africa, aims to combat HIV/AIDS.
Accompanied by the former Leader of Opposition, Rt. Hon. Mathias Mpuuga, the parliamentary leaders showcased solidarity with the Buganda Kingdom’s efforts against HIV/AIDS, aligning with this year’s theme, “Men are stars in the fight against HIV/AIDS to save the Girl Child.”
Expressing gratitude for Buganda Kingdom’s contribution to the national HIV/AIDS eradication efforts, Speaker Among emphasized the importance of collaborative action to achieve UNAIDS targets and Sustainable Development Goals.
Reflecting on the significance of the visit, Speaker Among stated, “I am honored to be part of the Kabaka Royal Birthday Run, 2024, and we pledge our full support to this noble cause.”
Rt. Hon. Mathias Mpuuga affirmed his commitment to join the parliamentary delegation in supporting the birthday run, underscoring the collective responsibility in tackling public health challenges.
Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa rallied MPs to participate in the upcoming run, highlighting the theme’s relevance in addressing HIV/AIDS and safeguarding the Girl Child. He acknowledged the generosity of the Buganda Caucus in providing kits for all MPs and urged active involvement in the event, either through participation or alternative contributions.
“As representatives of the people, it is imperative that we stand united in our support for initiatives like the Kabaka’s Birthday Run, contributing to the broader efforts in combating HIV/AIDS,” emphasized Speaker Tayebwa.
