On March 25, 2024, in Cullinan, Pretoria, 17-year-old Owami Visagie was allegedly murdered by her 30-year-old cousin. When her daughter didn’t return home the night before, March 24, her mother reported her missing to authorities.
It was said that the family rushed to Owami’s house to check on him after learning that he was last seen with his cousin. Owami’s mother entered the cousins’ room and found her daughter dead, gagged and naked, lying on the floor with her hands tied behind her back.
According to a witness, Owami was murdered by strangulation after being raped.Although the cousin left the scene, he later turned himself in to police. The family confirmed that the suspect was a close relative with whom they spent a lot of time.
Other social media posts claim the family is perplexed as to how a member of their own family could commit such a heinous murder. Visagie’s mother has not yet come to terms with her loss and is still struggling with the trauma.
