Earlier today, Lynn Ngugi conducted an interview with a Kenyan pastor, Pastor Dr. Margaret Kenye, who bravely shared her harrowing experiences at the hands of her husband, also a pastor.
Pastor Margaret, known for her philanthropic work, was ordained in 2012 and subsequently founded her own school to aid the less privileged. Orphaned at a young age, she was raised by her aunt.
Her journey to empowerment began with academic success, culminating in a degree in Banking and Finance from a prestigious university. It was during her college years that she found solace in Christianity, finding a welcoming community in the campus Christian Union.
Post-graduation, she found employment as a cleaner, coinciding with her introduction to a new church where she met her future husband, also a pastor.Their courtship was brief, and they were married in 2015. However, what started as a whirlwind romance soon turned into a nightmare of abuse and manipulation.
Pastor Margaret endured her husband’s volatile temper and relentless pressure to conceive a child. She would take loans for him in her name since she was working in the bank, but unfortunately the husband could not pay the them back. One day she asked him about the money and he started strangling her, where she realized everything was getting tough in the marriage.
She got afraid and she started wondering what kind of a pastor he was. When she got pregnant, the husband never took care of her and he had already rejected the child before he was even born. He embraced the child when he was three week old, because he realized he looked exactly like him.
The situation worsened with the revelation of her husband’s extramarital affair, supported by damning evidence. Despite his denial and attempts to discredit the evidence, Pastor Margaret confronted the painful truth. When she sought refuge in the law, her family and church rallied around her, providing support during her healing process.
Forced to rebuild her life from scratch, Pastor Margaret faced financial hardships and homelessness. Yet, through resilience and determination, she emerged stronger, now enjoying a fulfilling life with her son. Her story serves as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of faith in overcoming adversity.
