In a bold stance against what they perceive as a potential dynastic takeover of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), a group of ‘rebel’ MPs have issued a stern warning to party chairman President Museveni. Allegations swirl that Museveni intends to pass the party reins to his son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, sparking dissent within the ranks of the NRM.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, notable figures such as Lwemiyaga County MP, Theodore Ssekikubo, and Buyaga West MP, Barnabas Tinkasimire, voiced their concerns, asserting that the NRM is not a monarchy to be dominated by the familial aspirations of Museveni’s kin.

“General Muhoozi should make a definitive choice between the military and political spheres, and he must do so transparently, without being propelled by external forces,” remarked Tinkasimire, encapsulating the sentiment of the dissenting MPs.

Additionally, they have called upon Gen Muhoozi to adhere to the regulations stipulated in the UPDF Act Sections 66-67, which mandates the resignation from military service prior to engaging in active politics.

The brewing discontent among NRM MPs underscores the fissures emerging within the party, as concerns over succession and nepotism threaten to disrupt the established order. The defiance exhibited by these MPs signals a growing impatience with what they perceive as an attempt to consolidate power within the confines of one family, challenging the very foundations of democratic governance within the NRM.
