In a heartwarming gesture, Jalia Walda, a successful entrepreneur originally from Uganda but now residing in Texas, USA, has extended a helping hand to Lilian Mbabazi, a fellow Ugandan artist facing financial difficulties. Walda, known by her real name Jalia Nassolo, responded to a plea shared by Spark TV on Facebook, where it was revealed that Mbabazi was facing eviction due to unpaid rent.
The distressing situation came to light when Spark TV, owned by Nation Media Group, disclosed that Mbabazi had been given a 10-day ultimatum to settle her rent debts, failing which legal action would ensue. Amidst this dire circumstance, Walda, who enjoys a significant following on social media and operates a successful business in the beauty industry, offered to cover Mbabazi’s outstanding rent.
Expressing empathy for Mbabazi’s predicament, Walda commented on the post, stating, “She is a mom trying & failing to fix, kindly find contacts I will pay it.” Her compassionate gesture resonated deeply with many, highlighting the power of solidarity within the community.
The legal battle over Mbabazi’s rent arrears stems from a civil suit filed by SJ Estate Ltd in the court of the chief magistrate in Makindye. The plaintiff seeks to recover a sum of Shs16.2 million from Mbabazi, who allegedly fell behind on rent payments for a property located in Konge – Buziga, Kampala.
According to court documents, Mbabazi entered into a rental agreement with SJ Estate Ltd, agreeing to pay Shs1.5 million per month starting from February 21, 2018. However, by July 13, 2023, Mbabazi had accumulated rent arrears spanning a year, prompting legal action from the plaintiff.
Despite partial payment of Shs10 million on September 28, 2023, with a promise to settle the remaining balance by December 28, 2023, Mbabazi allegedly failed to fulfill her commitment. The plaintiff asserts that despite repeated demands, the outstanding balance of Shs16.2 million remains unpaid.
As the community awaits Mbabazi’s response to Walda’s generous offer, the incident underscores the importance of compassion and support within society, especially during times of financial hardship. Whether Mbabazi chooses to accept the assistance offered by Walda or pursues other avenues to address her rent arrears remains to be seen. Nevertheless, the solidarity displayed by individuals like Walda serves as a beacon of hope and unity in times of adversity.
