National Unity Platform(NUP) deputy spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro has dragged Charles Peter Mayiga the Buganda Kingdom premier into Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba’s Shs500m scandal.

Appearing on NBS’s Barometer Akasameme talk show, Mufumbiro revealed that Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) the party president and other leaders who including: Leader of Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi, David Lewis Rubongoya the party Secretary General, Butambala county legislator Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi, Hajjat Aisha Kabanda the Butambala district woman legislator and also NUP deputy Secretary General in an emergency meeting held at the party headquarters at Makerere Kavule directed Mpuuga to resign, return the Shs500m and apologise to the nation.

He was given 24 hours to execute the conditions given to him.

Mufumbiro said that the meeting issued the conditions after Mpuuga admitted that he was given the money but pleaded with the meeting to give him the 24 hours time to first consult his family and other concerned persons in his life.

He claimed that in that period, Mpuuga met Mayiga and Medard Lubega Ssegona the Busiro East legislator who advised him not to step aside and it is the reason why the party’s media team including himself decided to issue a statement over the matter and they are not regretting over it.

Mpuuga and other officials in Buganda Kingdom are claiming that there are leaders in NUP who facilitate insults against the person of Ronald Muwenda Mutebi the Kabaka of Buganda, Mayiga and other Kingdom leaders.

Mengo zeroed on Bobi Wine’s blue eyed boy Fred Kajubi Lumbuye a Turkey based Ugandan blogger for frequently abusing Kabaka Mutebi, his wife Sylivia Nagginda Luswata and other officials and some people have been petitioning Bobi Wine to take action against his henchman and stop them from insulting them.

A year back, Bobi Wine met Mayiga at Bulange the headquarters of Buganda Kingdom and highly placed sources claim that Mayiga pleaded with Bobi Wine not to axe Mpuuga from the position of Leader of Opposition in Parliament.

But since then, Bobi Wine has been dodging Mayiga because they had agreed to meet after six months.

Sources claim that the Mayiga, Ssegona, Mpuuga meeting is the reason why Bobi Wine used the burial of his uncle, the assassinated Endiga clan head, to declare Buganda Kingdom officials as the biggest problem to Buganda Kingdom’s future.

Bobi Wine is very bitter with Mpuuga’s decline to resign and highly placed NUP sources told theGrapevine that plans are ongoing to axe him from the position of the National deputy president in charge of Buganda.

However as Bobi Wine fights to tame Mpuuga and his group, his party leadership in Busoga has also protested his leadership style.

In the letter signed by Baamu Lulenzi, the NUP coordinator in Busoga region and also the Iganga Municipality mayor claims that the party leadership is fueling intrigue, infighting, tribalism and other sorts of embarrassment.

In the letter, Lulenzi cited a decision taken by party top leadership without making an investigation or consultation to suspend Moses Bigirwa from the office of the party chief coordinator in Busoga region.

He explained that Bigirwa was suspended because he disagreed with people close to Bobi Wine, a decision that has weakened the party.

Sources within NUP told theGrapevine that Mufumbiro was the one influencing Bobi Wine to suspend Bigirwa on allegation of undermining the Kyabazinga of Busoga Willian Gabula Nadiope and his wife Jovia Mutesi.

However Mufumbiro rubished the allegation explaining that he cannot fight with Bigirwa because they are both brothers.

Mufumbiro maintains that Bigirwa was suspended because of Kyabazinga issues.

The Lulenzi group also accused Bobi Wine of being selective when awarding party members big leadership positions.

He gave the example of the recent changes he made in parliament leadership where there was no fat office given to any legislator from Busoga as was done to their Baganda counterparts.
