Former Buganda Premier Dan Muliika Reacts To Mpuuga’s Shs500m

Former Buganda Premier Dan Muliika has urged ex-Leader of Opposition (LoP) Mathias Mpuuga to vindicate himself by citing the legal foundation for the alleged Sh500 million ‘service awards’ bestowed upon him. This development arises amid a discord between the Nyendo-Mukungwe Member of Parliament and Robert Kyagulanyi, the President of the National Unity Platform (NUP), to which Mpuuga is affiliated.

NUP has recommended Mpuuga’s resignation as a parliamentary commissioner, contending that his involvement in the allocation of contested funds, alongside three other commissioners, is ethically dubious and tantamount to corruption.

Despite the pressure, Mpuuga staunchly refuses to step down, asserting that he merits recognition for his two-year tenure as LoP and insisting that the funds are legally obtained.

Addressing journalists at his Bukoto residence today, Muliika emphasized that Mpuuga must rehabilitate his reputation by referencing specific legal provisions that justify his receipt of such financial rewards.

Simultaneously, Muliika issued a cautionary note, urging the ongoing dispute between Mpuuga and NUP to refrain from dragging Buganda Kingdom into the controversy.

Mpuuga, on his part, dismissed the allegations as unfounded and rebuffed calls for his resignation.
