It is with deep sorrow that we announce the demise of the beloved Nollywood actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu. The curtains fell on his illustrious life while he was undergoing medical care at the Ever care Hospital in Lagos, Nigeria. At the age of 62, Mr Ibu succumbed to a prolonged illness, which ultimately led to the unfortunate amputation of one of his legs, a harrowing consequence of the relentless battle he faced against a debilitating health condition—Cardiac Arrest.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to his grieving family. May his soul find eternal peace. Mr Ibu, celebrated for his comedic brilliance in numerous films, had been grappling with illness for an extended period, endeavoring to overcome the challenges posed by mounting hospital bills during his prolonged hospitalization.

The news of his illness sent shockwaves across Nigeria, leaving many in disbelief. Despite valiant efforts to secure the necessary medical attention, Mr Ibu’s health declined, and his family, now bereaved, is yet to disclose their plans moving forward. Even with the administration of appropriate medications, the beloved actor could not emerge victorious in this formidable battle. His outstanding medical bills were eventually settled, easing a financial burden that had weighed heavily on him.

John Ikechukwu Okafor, born on 17 October 1961 in Umunekwu, part of Nigeria’s former Eastern Region (now situated in Nkanu West L.G.A., Enugu State), faced numerous challenges from a young age. Following the demise of his father, Okafor relocated to Sapele in 1974, where he undertook various odd jobs to finance his education and support his family.

His journey led him through roles as a hairstylist, a stint in photography, and employment in a crate-producing company. Despite facing financial constraints, he pursued education, initially at the College of Education, Yola, and later at the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, once he could afford to do so.
