“Many See Him As A Kitchen-knife Child With A Sense Of Entitlement” Says Ofwono Opondo

In a fiery exchange, Government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo launched a scathing critique against Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, dubbing him a “kitchen-knife child with a sense of entitlement.”

The clash between Opondo and Gen Muhoozi erupted amidst tensions surrounding the First Son’s aspirations for his father’s presidential throne, facing opposition from NRM veterans like Gen Kahinda Otafiire.

Opondo, in a pointed opinion piece, condemned Gen Muhoozi’s confrontational approach towards these seasoned leaders, insisting that such disputes are incompatible with the NRM ethos.

“Reflecting on past conflicts with figures like Bidandi Ssali, Eriya Kategaya (RIP), or Amama Mbabazi, hurling insults at Kahinda Otafiire is unproductive, though Otafiire too should exercise restraint,” wrote Opondo.

He attributed Gen Muhoozi’s demeanor to a desire for effortless ascension to power and criticized his associates for their lack of decorum, paralleling them to NUP supporters on social media.

Characterizing Gen Muhoozi as brash and entitled, Opondo underscored his unsuitability for political leadership, citing past instances of arrogance and discomfort in public engagement.

“He appears as a figure expecting privileges without earning them, exacerbated by his abrasive supporters who lack restraint,” Opondo remarked.

Opondo suggested that Gen Muhoozi’s path to power should have involved military service, rather than political maneuvering, implying that parliamentary tenure would have been a smoother route to the presidency.

Furthermore, Opondo expressed confidence in President Museveni’s commitment to his supporters, dismissing speculations about an early departure in 2026.

The exchange between Opondo and Gen Muhoozi highlights deep-seated divisions within the NRM and underscores the challenges of succession planning in Ugandan politics.
