In a momentous political development, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has officially declared Rosemary Olwoc, the daughter of the late Cecilia Ogwal, as the heir to her mother’s enduring legacy in the Dokolo district of Uganda.

Cecilia Ogwal, a distinguished and influential figure in Ugandan politics, passed away at the age of 78 after bravely battling cancer in India on January 18. Her final resting place was in Lira on January 27.

Embarking on her remarkable political journey in 1996 as the Lira Municipality MP, Cecilia Ogwal’s unwavering commitment to public service led her to successfully contest the Dokolo Woman MP seat in 2005. She held this position until her recent demise, having transitioned from the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) to the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) during her illustrious career.

The transition ceremony, held at the FDC head offices in Najjanankumbi, Kampala, witnessed party leader Patrick Oboi Amuriat paying tribute to Cecilia Ogwal’s years of dedicated service. Amuriat strongly condemned the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), highlighting concerns about family rule within the NRM and advocating for a more democratic political landscape.

Rosemary Olwoc, assuming the mantle of her mother’s political legacy, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support received from the FDC. She pledged to persist in the fight for the people of Dokolo, thereby signaling a significant generational shift within the party and a commitment to upholding the principles championed by Cecilia Ogwal.

The FDC’s strategic decision to endorse Rosemary Olwoc as their candidate for Dokolo not only underscores the party’s confidence in her abilities but also represents a calculated move to address the political needs of the Dokolo constituency. As the political landscape evolves, there is palpable anticipation within the Dokolo constituency for a renewed perspective under the leadership of Cecilia Ogwal’s capable daughter.
