The anticipated release of the 2023 Uganda Certificate of Education Examination (UCE) results is set to happen on Thursday, February 15, 2024, according to a confidential source within the Ministry of Education and Sports, who preferred to remain anonymous. The disclosure is expected to take place at 11 am, hosted at State House Nakasero.

A high-level meeting between the Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb) and the Minister of Education is scheduled to precede the public release, shedding light on the students’ performance. This marks the second installment of national examination results unveiled by Uneb, following the recent release of the Primary Leaving Examinations.

Mr. Dan Odongo, the Executive Director of Uneb, is poised to provide comprehensive insights into the number of candidates who participated in the examination compared to the registered candidates. The revelation will encompass a detailed breakdown of the overall performance and performance categorized by gender.

Subsequent to the release, parents, candidates, and other stakeholders can promptly access the results through Short Message Services (SMS) on their mobile devices. The process involves sending a text with the full Index Number of the candidate to 6600.

Simultaneously, the Kasese District Local Government has already disseminated the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) results, showcasing notable improvements in school performance. The best-performing government schools in the district include Ruboni, Bwera COU, Katwe Boarding, St. John Bukangara, Kagando P/s, Hima Public, Kalonge I, and Mweya p/s. Conversely, the worst-performing schools are Kahendero P/s, Maghoma, Nyakanengo, St. Augustine Kitabu, Kyondo, and Kasenyi.

Furthermore, the acting district education officer, Mr. Thabugha Ernest, outlined strategies to enhance educational services in 2024. These initiatives encompass community sensitization, transparent human resource distribution, encouragement of co-curricular activities, mobilization of funding, and the establishment of centers of excellence.

District authorities, including Chief Administrative Officer Mr. Byamungu Elias and the district chairperson, emphasized the need for head teachers to strive for improved school performance. They pledged incentives for outstanding schools and students to motivate others.

At the release of the results at State House Nakasero, UNEB Executive Director Dan Odongo highlighted a higher proportion of candidates passing in Division 3 and above. However, he expressed concern over the significant number of candidates receiving an Ungraded (Division U), urging a deeper investigation into the causes to address the issue effectively.
