The Opposition Leader in Parliament, Mr. Joel Ssenyonyi, made a compassionate visit to Kawempe North legislator Muhammad Ssegirinya at Nairobi’s Agha-Khan Hospital, marking nearly two months of his hospitalization. In response to circulating social media rumors regarding Ssegirinya’s health decline, Mr. Ssenyonyi assured the public of the opposition’s vigilant monitoring and promised a comprehensive report to be presented to Parliament.

Accompanied by the Chief Whip of the opposition, Mr. John Baptist Nambeshe, Mr. Ssenyonyi extended appreciation to Ssegirinya’s family, particularly his mother, Ms. Justine Nakajumba, for their steadfast support. He offered reassurance that Ssegirinya is on a positive trajectory towards recovery, underscoring the significant role of prayer in the legislator’s healing journey.

Addressing broader concerns about healthcare facilities in Uganda, Mr. Nambeshe advocated for increased investment in the healthcare sector to improve working conditions for the country’s skilled healthcare professionals. He emphasized the dedication of Ugandan doctors caring for Ssegirinya in Kenya, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced medical facilities within Uganda.

Ms. Nakajumba appealed to the public, especially social media users, to refrain from spreading unfounded death rumors, emphasizing Ssegirinya’s imminent return to his constituency duties. She expressed gratitude to Parliament for its unwavering support during this challenging period.

Ssegirinya, previously incarcerated for over a year in Luzira prison on charges related to machete killings in greater Masaka, had initially sought medical treatment in Germany and the Netherlands before being transferred to Kenya. His health concerns post-release, including reports of lung problems and skin-related infections, have heightened apprehension within the community.
