In Uganda’s Amudat District within the tumultuous Karamoja sub-region, law enforcement is actively haunting unidentified armed assailants responsible for the tragic incident on Sunday afternoon. Four cattle dealers fell victim to the assailants, believed to be Karimojong warriors, who relentlessly tracked and fatally shot them at approximately 3 pm before making their escape.

The acting Mt Moroto regional Police Spokesperson, IP Mike Longole, expressed his regret over the unfortunate incident, confirming the attack. He reported that a dedicated team of detectives, accompanied by a canine unit, visited the crime scene and successfully retrieved substantial evidence.

Providing details, IP Longole stated, “Police in Amudat District have today (Sunday) at around 0330 pm registered a nasty incident where four individuals, traveling in Motor vehicle Reg. No. UBP 601Q Toyota Harrier black in colour, were shot dead by suspected armed thugs along Lemusui Road in Akonguyo village, Amudat Sub County.”

Although the victims’ identities were not disclosed by the police, it was revealed that they hailed from Mbale City in eastern Uganda, reportedly engaged in the cattle trade. Witnesses’ statements were recorded to aid ongoing investigations into the brutal murder of these innocent road users.

The bodies were transported to Amudat Hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations, marking a pivotal step as the police work diligently to unravel the motives behind the attack and apprehend the perpetrators.

Over the past five years, numerous Ugandans have fallen victim to attacks by suspected armed warriors in the mineral-rich north-eastern sub-region. Cattle rustling has intensified insecurity in the area, despite repeated disarmament operations conducted by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
